Spring Trip to Remote Islands - Spring Nature Expo on the Oki Islands

Visit in March and April to experience unique spring activities!
When spring comes, it gets warmer and you want to go out. After the cold winter, take a deep breath of fresh spring air and have fun! Feel soothed by the pleasant spring weather surrounded by the unspoiled nature.
During the period from March to June, before the tourist season gets into full swing, there are still not many tourists around, so it is a chance to have the magnificent scenery of nature all to yourself.
Immerse yourself in a fantastic view
Oki Islands, designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark, aren't just a place where you can see precious geological heritage. They are a place that tells the story of the land, connecting the “Geohistory” of the islands created over millions of years, the “Unique Ecosystem” that developed on this land, and the diverse “Lifestyles and Traditions” of the people that have been passed down until today.
Take in the great nature in springtime and discover the connections between the land and the daily lives of the islanders!
No. 1 recommended way to spend time: "Do nothing"
Surrender yourself to the leisurely flow of time. Spending time in the grandeur of nature without doing anything allows you to forget about the worries and hustle and bustle of everyday life. Spending time amidst the magnificent scenery of the Oki Islands is a blissful moment where you feel the luxury of doing nothing.
No. 2 recommended way to spend time: "Observe the nature"
In spring scenic spots, life is waking up after winter. The vibrant lives of animals and plants unique to the Oki Islands make you feel the arrival of spring.
Discover the island spring through activities
Another recommended way to enjoy the great spring nature of Oki is to enjoy nature activities.
The sea and the mountains, the Oki Islands are full of nature and offer many outdoor experiences. This year, the islands will carry out the “Spring Nature Expo” from 1st March until 23rd April! From here, we will introduce the recommended activities available during that time.
Experience the sea
1) Iwagaki rock oysters are in peak season in spring
Iwagaki rock oysters are best eaten raw in the Oki Islands. They are in season from March to April in early spring! The smooth texture and rich, creamy taste are irresistible! If you like, you can add some soy sauce or lemon juice to make it even more delicious.
During the "Spring Nature Expo", there will be a lot of content where you can enjoy rock oysters, raw or grilled, so make sure to check it out from the link below!
2) Marine activities
The sea of the Oki Islands has high transparency, which allows you to see down to the bottom of the sea, surrounded by the tranquility of the sky and green land. Many activities are held on the sea, such as sea kayaking and fishing for seasonal fish in spring.
In addition to regular kayaking, we especially recommend marine activities unique to the Oki Islands such as kayaking to a desert island where you can enjoy a seafood BBQ and cherry blossom viewing at the same time!
Experience the lush nature
1) Get in touch with nature
The sea is not the only attraction of the islands in spring. We also recommend experiencing the nature, as it wakes up after the long winter.
Ride an e-bike (electric-assisted mountain bike) in the midst of nature, or join a guided tour and discover the Oki Islands from the point of view of a local person. We have prepared many experiences that you can feel with your five senses!
2) Think about sustainability and environment
Aiming for a sustainable region of the Oki Islands, the "Spring Nature Expo" will carry out initiatives that are conscious of the environment. For example, after trekking on the uninhabited Omorijima Island and enjoying its precious nature and the spectacular view, the tour concludes with the experience of cleaning the marine garbage washed ashore.
In addition, there is also a special sightseeing boat tour in Nishinoshima Town offered only this season. After cleaning the coast get aboard a sightseeing boat and enjoy the spectacular views of cliffs and rocks of Kuniga Coast, which is one of the scenic spots in the Oki Islands.
The Oki Islands are one of the most beautiful places in Japan to enjoy nature, but there is no guarantee that this will continue forever. The nature is constantly changing due to the erosion of waves and winds, and also due to the human activity. How about using this opportunity to consider how we can continue to exist in harmony with nature?
