Information for Travel Professionals
Removed far away from bustling metropolis and fast-paced city life lies a special archipelago in the Sea of Japan.
With its rich natural environment, unique culture and centuries-old traditions, the Oki Islands serve as a gateway
to deepen your understanding and connection to Japan. Moreso, to the Earth that we love and inhabit as conscious human beings. Designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark, the Oki Islands are known for their abundance of natural beauty and a unique culture that offers a different experience from the main islands of Japan. Here, visitors can step back, connect with nature, and develop authentic connections with the island people who truly act as stewards of the islands’ ecosystems and natural resources, cultural assets and traditions, and communities and economies.
Creating a Tour to the Oki Islands? We Can Help You!
The Oki Islands Geopark Management Bureau can assist you in creating special tours to offer to your clients. Please contact us for general information and support in your planning process. We would be happy to give you a general presentation about the islands online, or review the tour to the islands that you are creating. We can also introduce you to foreign language-speaking guides, activity or tour providers, and put you in contact with a local tour operator (contact with the tour operator currently only in Japanese).
Online Guide for Travel Agents
Whether you’re interested in immersing yourself in nature through hiking or sea-kayaking, uncovering local stories at an old, privately-run guesthouse, or savouring some seasonal local delicacies like rock oysters, the opportunities available in this remote destination are endless. We have carefully taken these special assets of the Oki Islands and organised them in an e-brochure for you to share with your clients, as they look to visit and experience a different “gateway to Japan.”
