Folk Dance Night -in- Oki Nature Museum（Oki Islands Folk Dance Experience）

    Dance the night away with the traditional, representative folk dance of the Oki Islands: Shigesa dance!
    Even beginners can enjoy this program where participants use pot lids to dance the Shigesa-bushi and other folk dances.

    As a port of call for ships traveling on the kitamaebune trading ship route between Hokkaido and Osaka during the Edo period (1603-1868), folk songs and dances gathered from all across Japan have taken root here as a part of the Oki Islands’ distinctive culture.
    Among those dances are some that incorporate everyday items found in the kitchen into their choreography and are considered the highlight of parties, both then and now.

    Shigesa-bushi: the representative style of the Oki Islands folk dances.
    Dance to the beat as you clang pot lids both in front of and behind you.

    ※If there are a large number of participants, small plates will be used instead of pot lids.
    ※Although there are no strenuous movements during the dance, please be sure to come wearing clothing that is easy to move in.
    ※This event will occur rain or shine. Please take the possibility of poor weather into consideration and make alternative plans in case of bad weather.
    ※Please take home the memories of this experience as a part of your time on the Oki Islands.
