Encounter the giant Japanese cedars that represent the nature of the Oki Islands
Dōgo Island (Okinoshima Town) offers not only beautiful coastal scenery but also magnificent mountains and deep greenery covering them. It will make you forget that you are on a remote island.
This trail is one of the most popular hiking destinations.

The trail begins with a greeting to the mountain deity.
An ancient cedar, estimated to be 800 years old or older, stands quietly but with an overwhelming presence as if it were a guardian deity of the mountain, matching the mysterious atmosphere of the whole area. It is Chichi-sugi Japanese Cedar, the sacred tree of Iwakura Shrine.

The highlights of the trail include close-up encounters with some of the most venerated, centuries-old giant Japanese cedar trees on the Oki Islands, discovering a tradition of worshiping nature which is deeply rooted in the local community, and enjoying the amazing view from the summit.

There are some places where you will have to use ropes to climb steep rockfaces. This trail is mainly for experienced hikers, but beginners with good health and stamina can also try it or go to see the giant Japanese cedars and return to the trailhead.
Various arrangements are possible. Please feel free to ask.
