- Back by Popular Demand! Chiburijima “Walk & Cruise” Tour Returns This Year
After its incredible debut last year, the Chiburijima “Walk & Cruise” tour is back—thanks to the overwhelming enthusiasm of our participants!
This unique adventure begins at Kurii Port, where we’ll set off on a scenic 4.5 km walk to Watazu Shrine on the uninhabited island of Shimazushima. From there, we’ll hop aboard a sightseeing boat for an unforgettable cruise to the breathtaking Sekiheki (Red Cliffs).
Along the way, you’ll be joined by a knowledgeable local geo-guide who will share fascinating insights into the island’s natural wonders and cultural landmarks. Learn about the pristine Kawai spring, the sacred Amasashihiko-no-mikoto (Ikkū Shrine) Shrine, and a historic temple connected to Emperor Go-Daigo. You’ll also gain a deeper appreciation for the rich history of Chibu Village and the unique lifestyle of its islanders.
Shimazushima Island is home to rare geological formations found nowhere else in the Oki Islands. At Watazu Shrine, you'll even uncover the origin story behind the name "Chiburijima."
And then—prepare to be awestruck. Sekiheki, the dramatic Red Cliffs, are best appreciated from the sea, where their full scale and majesty come into view. Look up from the boat and feel the overwhelming beauty and power of nature.
This tour offers a fresh perspective of Chiburijima—an off-the-beaten-path experience unlike the usual route from Mt. Akahage’s observatory.
Planning a day trip? No problem! It's possible to return to the mainland the same day. Just reach out to us for details—we’d be happy to help you plan your visit.
