Hop on Ferry Oki for a 2.5 hours cruise. It’s the perfect time to relax or to finish organising your upcoming trip. On clear days, go on the deck and enjoy the view while leaving Shichirui Port and setting sail to the islands.

Have lunch before heading out on your adventure. Seafood lovers will be happy to have extra fresh and locally-caught fish and shellfish. If you are more of a meat eater, Oki beef is definitely a must-have! Raised here in Oki Islands, this high-quality beef is well known all over Japan for its exquisite taste.

Tamawakasu-mikoto Shrine
Tamawakasu-mikoto Shrine is the main general shrine and is also one of the oldest shrine of the Oki Islands. It features a traditional Oki-zukuri architectural style.
As you approach the shrine, you will notice a giant Japanese Cedar tree; this is Yao-sugi, a tree that is estimated to be more than 1,700 years old.

Chichi-sugi Japanese Cedar
A huge tree that stands quietly on the side of Mt. Daimanji, the Oki Islands' highest peak. Here you can feel a mysterious atmosphere in an area that feels cool even in the summer, particularly just after rain.

Mizuwakasu Shrine
This is one of the oldest shrines on the Oki Islands, recorded in Engishiki (a Japanese book about procedures, laws, and customs written back in 927), and was the highest-ranked (Ichinomiya) shrine of the former Oki Province. The shrine is also designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

Dangyō-no-taki Waterfalls
Dangyō-no-taki is one of the “100 Best Waterfalls in Japan”. Just a short walk from the car park, you will find yourself surrounded by luxuriant nature. Take a deep breath, forget all your worries, and connect with your surroundings. Close your eyes and let the sound of the water and the singing of birds transport you to a peaceful state of mind.
Rōsoku-jima Sightseeing Boat
This is the most popular sightseeing boat in Okinoshima Town. Enjoy the ride during sunset to discover why the locals call the highlight of the tour, a single sea stack, “Candle Island”.
*Departure time varies over the course of the year to match the time of the sunset. When you make your reservation, please check your confirmation notice.
In early July, the departure time is around 6:00 PM while in late August, it is around 5:30 PM.

What is better than visiting a shrine in the morning? Take the local bus from the bus stop in front of the ferry port to visit the Oki Shrine! Another option is to rent a bicycle; the shrine can be reached by cycling in around 20-25 minutes.

Start at Oki Shrine, and then visit museums about Emperor Gotoba. There is even a cute bread and souvenir shop nearby called "Tsunakake." Let's take a look around and explore the island slowly.

If you did not rent a bicycle, please take a bus at 12:36. There is no bus stop sign on this side of the road. Please stand and wait on the opposite side of the road from the bus stop at which you got off when coming here. Raise your hand to signal to the driver that you want to board.

Enjoy a lovely lunch on the second floor of the ferry terminal with a lovely view of the ocean. All meals are cooked with only local ingredients and seasonal food! (English Menu Available)

13:21Take Inter-islands Ferry Isokaze from Ama Town (Hishiura Port) to Nishinoshima Town (Beppu Port)
Depart for Nishinoshima Town from Hishiura Port (Ama Town) on the small inter-island ferry Isokaze. The trip takes only 7 minutes! After arriving in Nishinoshima rent a car to see shrines and the spectacular views of the island. (A car might not be readily available due to the limited numbers of rental cars. We strongly recommend booking in advance.)

Takuhi Shrine
"Takuhi Shrine, dedicated to a deity of sea voyage, holds a special place among the many shrines of the Dōzen area, which in the past served as port of call for merchant ships. Its main building (honden) is partially hidden inside a cave, a sight not to be missed for culture enthusiasts.
The shrine is located in a forest on a mountain. It takes around 20-25 min to reach it from the car park on foot."

Yurahime Shrine
Yurahime Shrine, one of the Oki Islands’ most important shrines, is surrounded by many local tales and legends and is a popular destination for many visitors. Carvings of squid decorate the shrine building and lanterns.

Kuniga Coast, Matengai Cliff
Stand on the top of the 257-metre-tall cliff and feel the enormity of the landscape created by the forces of nature over thousands of years. The trail leads through a grassy pasture, where cows and horses graze peacefully.

Amasashihiko-no-mikoto Shrine (Ikkū Shrine)
Boasting over 1000 years of history, Ikkū Shrine is the largest shrine in Chibu Village.
The locals have fondly nicknamed this shrine Ikkū Shrine, which means ""the highest-ranking shrine on the island."" Before you climb the steps to the shrine, don't forget to check out the information panel on the left to find out about the shirine's history and traditional festival!

Ride one last time on the inter-island ferry Isokaze. Head to Hishiura Port in Ama Town to join the last activity of your remote island adventure.

Discover the wonders of the sea from this boat. Tickets are available at Ama Town Tourism Association, which is located inside the ferry terminal building. An English brochure that explains the sights and sea life you might meet during the tour is available there, too, so remember to pick it up!
