- Abstract-art-like rockface, a remnant of a volcanic activity that created the Dōzen Islands
- Shimazushima Island is part of the outer rim of the Dōzen Caldera. The trachyte that has intruded into the sandstone rock, rare in the Oki Islands, creates a beautiful wine-colored gradation pattern on the white rock surface. These patterns have many shapes, such as those that spread out like wings, and those that look like ripples after a water drop falls. Dendrites, which resemble seaweed fossils, are mineral crystals that form in a similar way to snow crystals. Many dendrites are dark in color and have a fuzzy shape, and it is quite rare for them to have such a distinct shape, making the well-formed ones prized as decorations overseas.
