Camping Sites on the Oki Islands

Camping has begun appealing to more and more people, offering the prospect of spending time in nature and going at your own pace. (Some people have also been inspired by the fun anime series “Laid-Back Camp”!) The four Oki Islands each have their own campgrounds where you can set up a tent or enjoy a barbecue, with some even offering equipment for rent. Come enjoy refreshing island camping!

Let’s start by looking at the campgrounds on the largest of the four Oki Islands, Dōgo (Okinoshima Town).

Shimane-bana Auto Campground, overlooking the Dōzen Caldera

The only auto campground in the Oki Islands, Shimane-bana Auto Campground offers an excellent location for viewing the Dōzen Caldera.

What is the Dōzen Caldera?
The three Dōzen Islands were formed by volcanic activity long ago. They were once one volcanic island. As a result of eruptions, the central part became hollow and caved in, creating a depression that sea water later flowed into to create the inner sea. The islands make up the outer ring of this terrain known as the Dōzen Caldera.

The tent sites are equipped with an AC power source, and other facilities are available nearby including warm showers. This campground allows for a comfortable camping experience.
